Teen Leadership (Ages 14-17)
Our Teen Leadership Programs invite older campers to step into new challenges, grow their confidence, and discover their ability to lead. Designed for teens who love camp and want to make an impact, these programs blend adventure, service, and hands-on leadership development in an encouraging and inclusive environment.

Empower. Inspire. Lead.
Participants learn by doing – assisting with activities, supporting younger campers, working as a team, and taking on meaningful responsibilities that help camp run smoothly. Whether they are planning a campfire program, leading a game, or tackling a group challenge on the trail, teens practice communication, collaboration, and problem-solving while staying grounded in the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
And of course, it’s still camp – full of laughter, friendships, and plenty of time for outdoor fun. Teens share cabins, meals, and memorable experiences together, forming a community built on trust, growth, and shared adventure.
By the end of the program, participants walk away with stronger leadership skills, deeper self-awareness, and a sense of belonging—prepared to lead confidently at camp, at school, and in their everyday lives.
Counselors in Training (CIT) Ages 15-16
The Counselor in Training (CIT) Program is designed for teens who are ready to take their camp experience to the next level. CITs participate in a hands-on leadership development experience where they learn how to support younger campers, lead activities, and work as part of a camp team. Through workshops, shadowing, and real-world practice, CITs build skills in communication, problem-solving, group management, and positive role modeling. CITs still get to enjoy the fun of camp: outdoor adventure, shared cabin life, and strong friendships with peers who are on a similar leadership journey. It’s a supportive, challenging, and meaningful step toward becoming a confident leader at camp and beyond. No experience is required.

Assistant Counselor (AC)
Ages 16-17
The Assistant Counselor (AC) Program is the next step for teens who are ready to take on greater responsibility in the camp community. ACs work closely with staff mentors and take an active role in leading cabin groups, guiding activities, supporting daily routines, and contributing to the overall camper experience. This role emphasizes leadership through service, teamwork, initiative, and professionalism while still capturing the joy and spirit of camp life. ACs model positive behavior, help create inclusive cabin environments, and support campers emotionally, socially, and physically throughout the day. ACs gain practical experience that prepares them for future counselor roles, while also growing confidence, independence, and a strong sense of purpose. It’s a chance to lead, learn, and make a lasting difference in the camp community. Completion of the CIT Program is REQUIRED.
